Need for NYC in Nigeria
Dear All ,
There is need for Nigeria to have a National Youth Council(NYC)
because the youths are denied their social and economic rights.
These rights include the right to be engaged in economic activities,
maximum welfare and happiness, employment e.t.c. However the provisions
are not justifiable, this means one cannot go to court to claim damages
for breach of the provisions The social and economic rights does not
meet the aspiration of the Nigerian youth. Concerning the World Bank on
the poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) and the Poverty Reduction Strategy
Papers (PRSPs) the country has identified and called it NEEDS-National
Economic &Development Strategy. This process has taken off with various
agencies of government making projection and estimate that would support.
Following this would be a series of consultation at zonal level in
order to carry the various communities along. Again the process is
Nigeria owned . The youths were not
included in the process.
For this reason, there is need to form the National Youth Council.All members of TIG and the United Nations
should try and see reasons why the NYC should be formed in Nigeria, and
to sometimes enable the Nigerian youth join the working groups.
I hope Cath and others from Congo YAC, Camilla, Amir from UNEP, YACs e.t.c.
And the working group should join in the struggle against Nigeria youth
marginalisation and see the need for an NYC in Nigeria.
